Week 1 Complete!

As we wrap up a hectic first week in India, I have become thankful for many things. Unfortunately it takes a trip like this to make a person realize it, but sometimes we all really need to get out in the world to see as Americans how fortunate we are. And I don't say this in a bad way, India is an amazing country with a rich culture, great food and nice people.  Its just that you may not realize how nice it is to have an open backyard, fresh clean air, low poverty rates or even a simple hot bubble bath.
Today we checked into the Radisson in Shimla which is in the mountains at the base of the Himalayas.  I cannot explain how good it felt to take a hot shower! I am now a pro at the balti bath (bucket bath) but to just stand there in a hot shower was so relaxing! And they have a tub so I am sure Mia is gonna be in there for a while! We were only supposed to be here one night but we ended up extending for another because the drive up was lengthy and full of sharp turns up the mountain side. I just felt like Mia really needed a break from the car and we probably do as well. The hotel is beautiful and is built into the mountian side with a pool and waterslide! Unfortunately we didn't bring our swimming suits because we thought it might be too chilly. It also has a really neat kids room with tons of books, toys and scheduled activities....which is located right next to the bar! A match made in heaven if you ask me!
We didn't really accomplish much today, just roamed around a bit in the main tourist area. Mia and I did get to ride a beautiful white horse named Gypsy around the center court and it only cost $2! Of course we gave the guy more because that is ridiculous considering how little it cost us in US dollars.  The man was so thankful.  We wanted to do more but by 3pm everyone was exhausted and Mia was getting out of control so we headed back to the hotel.  Did I mention all of the bulls, cows and monkey's we are seeing!? I have not been able to snap a pic of a monkey on my phone yet but I am sure I will tomorrow when we head up to the temple where they worship them. They are kind of creeping me out and I have been told by many people to watch my shoes and glasses as they will come and snatch them!
