Shopping in Delhi

YWednesday started off really slow because we were out so late the night before.  And when I say slow, I mean that I actually had to wake Mia up at 10:30! That one has to go down in the record book for her, but she has been exhausted.  I must say that she is being a trooper,  she misses home like crazy but she is having fun. After wrestling Mia for her bath  it was time to head out to the market to shop. But first stop was to a south Indian joint for some sambar dosa. For those of you who are not familiar with sambar dosa, its like a thick soup with a huge patato stuffed naan on the side. (I use naan as an example but it is extremely thin).
After lunch, we crossed the street and headed over to the shops. This was actually the first time that I have used the stroller on this trip, and it was a bit awkward. We are so spoiled in the states because using a stroller there is so easy with wide sidewalks, elevators and ramps. But when we went for lunch, we had to fold the stroller up, take mia out and carry all the crap that was in the storage basket up the stairs. Did I mention all the people staring at us trying to awkwardly manage this!? Then just crossing the street was difficult because there are cracks and holes in the pavement. Somehow we managed.
We also drew lots of attention, the locals saw the dollar signs floating over my head. But I had two of the best bargainers at my side: my mother in law and Jas' Uncle.  I would just go pick out what I liked and they swooped in and did the rest. It is pretty amusing because it almost sounds like they are arguing but that is the way it works. I do understand enough Hindi to get the jist of the conversation,  so I like to listen in for my entertainment!
After shopping at the market,  we stopped off at a snack shop and Jas had a sweet that he has been dying to eat since we got here: jalaybi. Of course we can get that at any Indian shop back in the states but he says its just amazing in India.  I personally love sweets but I feel my teeth ache every time I try jalaybi. Its similar to fried dough, but when they put it in the hot oil, they swirl it around and make a circular design.  Then they take it out and dip it in this orange sugary syrup....its best eaten fresh. The smile on Jas's face really was priceless!
After some snacks and coffee we stopped off at a store to buy some new Indian outfits for me. You can buy them pre-stiched but I am so tall that its easier to buy the material and have it custom fit. This was an experience for me because you go in and sit down and the guys just start pulling down all of this beautiful material and lay in front of you. And they keep pulling down all different colors, styles and embroidered patterns. Mia even got into it and helped the guy lay it out in front of me! My mother in law is definitely the fashionista,  every time the guy brought something down, she would just say no, push it to the side and firmly tell him that she wants the best styles and newest fashion. Then she would walk away and go further down the asile to try and find what she was looking for. In the meantime,  the sales guy brought more styles down, a few I liked but before he put into the pile that I was keeping I told him I had to run it by my boss and he laughed. At the end, I walked out with 3 beautiful new outfits.
We ended our night by having dinner at Jas's uncles house with his grandfather,  AKA: Poppa Ji. Mia was in a great mood in the evening and I was so glad because she has been a little standoffish towards everyone she is meeting.  You can imagine my relief when she went right to Poppa-ji and gave him a big hug and kiss! It was an early evening by Indian standards (usually dinner is late, we at at about 9:30 or 10) and we were home by 11ish. We had to get right into bed because our car and driver was arriving at 6am the next morning to take us to the state of Punjab.
